Happy New Year everyone! It’s just a matter of days until this year is a wrap and a whole new year starts. And we all know what this means: it’s time for the New Year’s resolutions! Now we know that you feel like this year is going to be the year you FINALLY do something big, and it could be — if you keep your feet on the ground with realistic goals that you can actually achieve.
So, here are 10 resolutions that can actually work for you this year if you have what it takes to make a change.
Yes, we get it. It’s hard to force yourself to go to the gym if you’re not a gym freak, but whoever said ‘The greatest investment you can ever do is that done in your body’ knew what they were talking about. No need for drastic changes though, just consider adding some healthier food choices to your diet and any kind of minimal physical activity that you actually enjoy; walking your dog for instance or shaking it to your favourite tunes.
Remember those piano lessons you’ve wanted to sign up for for ages? What about your urge to start your own blog? Take a yoga class maybe? Well, this could be the time to do so. We’re not saying try every single hobby that you’ve been interested in. Just pick one for starters, show up, and let time do the rest.
Let’s be realistic, you won’t be 20 forever so the sooner you start, the more your future self will thank you. With the less greenery and more pollution that we experience living in the city, our skin is more prone to age quickly and look dull. Make sure you keep your skin clean, drink more water, and use skin products that are proper for your age and skin type.
If you have the luxury to travel once or twice a year, that’s great! But if not, maybe you should start considering doing so. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an extravagant trip that’ll cost you a whole lot of money; you can always start local, and you’ll be amazed by all the new and affordable spots you can visit in Egypt — you need to add Siwa, Nuweiba & South Sinai in general to your ‘To-Go List’.
We said it: human connections are your greatest asset! Be it to make friends, just have some fun, or go as far as exploring new aspects of human nature, meeting new people as you go through life is always a healthy and refreshing thing to do. Try hanging out at new spots, joining a book club or any group of people who share your interests, or maybe not turn down the invitation to join this group you just met for drinks next time they offer it. Try to avoid turning into one of those wedding crashers though; it doesn’t always turn out well!
It’s no surprise that in this crazy dynamic world we live in, our fast-paced lifestyle has succeeded in disconnecting us from those who really matter. But there’s always a way back, so make sure you maintain at least one family ritual that you’ll stick to no matter what happens; a weekly family movie night perhaps? It’s a cliché for a reason, but your family bond is what matters the most.
Yes, technology rocks, yet it somehow managed to own us when it was supposed to be the other way around. We became so concerned about how our lives look like online that we forgot to actually live! So turn your data off for a couple of hours and just go do something else and REALLY do it.
‘A reader lives a thousand lives before they die.’ Doesn’t matter what kind of books you prefer, as long as you read them. Not a big fan of books? No worries, you’ll find tons of audiobooks or even free applications like Blinkist that’ll summarize a book for you in less than 15 minutes. We promise you won’t regret it.
It’s about time you took some responsibility for your own spending pattern. Put down a scheme; drop the unnecessary crazy shopping frenzy you go through at the beginning of every month and start saving up a little. There’s always gonna be another killer pair of boots around and bit by bit, you’ll figure out what works best for you.
There’s no point in living your life according to those standards set by others. Just figure out who you really are, what you really love, and who you aspire to become. After all, you are your only competition and if you can go to bed with yourself every night, you’ll have owned the world.
Always remember, you can do whatever it is that you want if you set your mind to it. The key is to start small and not care how long it takes you to get there; baby steps are still steps and we promise they’ll get you somewhere. Just start.
