7 Modern Productions You Need To Watch This Halloween

Halloween is around the corner, and you’re probably sick of watching the same horror movies and shows every year. While The Shining might be a classic that you’ll never get tired of watching, do you still get goosebumps every time Jack Nicholson bursts through the wall with his famous “Heeeere’s Johnny!” line?

If you really want to spook yourself, check out some of these modern titles and see how far you can go without screaming.

1. Black Mirror (2011 – Present)

Horror doesn’t necessarily mean blood, and that’s what Black Mirror proves with every passing season. Based in the near future, each episode has an independent producer and cast who show you the true horrors of technology. Good luck falling asleep after this one.

2. It (2017)

Hey, 90’s kids, remember when you were too afraid to go to the bathroom after seeing the original It? Prepare for some freaky nostalgia with the same horrific clown, 27 years later.

3. Stranger Things (2016 – Present)

Okay, so you’re not into the ‘drop your popcorn’ kind of horror, and that’s fine. Instead, you can watch a show that’ll take you back to the good old days of not-so-terrifying thrillers. While the action doesn’t begin straight away, a binge-watching session of Stranger Things will make you feel just a little bit unsettled.

4. Cult of Chucky (2017)

If you felt like locking any dolls or action figures in a place far, far away after watching 1988’s Child’s Play, you’re not alone. The creepy doll lived on for seven more movies, the latest of which is the Cult of Chucky. While the sequels surely can’t be compared to the first one, they’ll still deliver a bout of terrifying memories.

5. The Exorcist (2016)

The modern show, not the movie. There’s something unsettling about exorcisms –they feel so possible. If you’ve had the misfortune of sitting through a conversation about weird encounters with what is believed to be a paranormal force, then this show should be able to spook you easily enough.

6. Trump’s Inauguration (2017)

Because nothing will ever be more terrifying than a world where Donald Trump is president.

7. The Shining (1980)

Because you don’t mess with the classics.
