9 Best Italian Restaurants in Cairo (So Far)

1 year ago By Konafa Team

Who doesn’t love Italian? But considering that every restaurant and cafe in town serves some semblance of Italian fare –the ubiquitous pasta and pizza– do we actually have any proper Italian restaurants in town, and are they actually good? The answer is yes we do, and yes they are. Of course someone is going to come and compare these restaurants to places they actually ate in Italy, so let’s be clear: these are the best Italian places in Cairo, not the best Italian restaurants on the face of the Earth. Here’s the list, in no particular order:

1. Cucina

Location: JW Marriott, New Cairo

Perfect for dates or family dinners. On the pricey side because it’s a hotel.

Try: the Hawaii pizza (turkey and pineapple toppings) and the farfalle al salmone.

2. La Trattoria

Location: Zamalek

A hidden but beautiful little restaurant in Zamalek, La Trattoria has a quiet charm that we haven’t seen elsewhere in Cairo.

Try: the Scaloppine alla Milanese and the saffron risotto.

3. Bella

Location: Four Seasons Nile Plaza (Garden City)

Expensive but worth it, with great views.

Try: the octopus carpaccio, Australian steak and their extensive risotto list.

4. The White Owl

Credit: The White Owl

Location: Maadi

This newly-opened restaurant is a little different than the others because it focuses solely on pasta. Read our review here

Try: their vegan cream pasta: tagliatelle and vegetables in a pink coconut cream sauce.

5. Il Piccolo Mondo

Location: Zamalek

Found on the Le Pacha 1901 boat, this restaurant has been serving Italian fare for 25 years. Read about other “old is gold” Zamalek restaurants here

Try: the penne “Le Pacha” — artichokes, chicken and smoked tomatoes tossed with penne and a light cream sauce.

6. CaiRoma

Location: Downtown

Definitely not as upscale as the rest of the restaurants on this list, but that doesn’t mean any less good. Found on a pedestrian alley deep in Downtown, you can read our review here.

Try: in our opinion, their pastas were better than their pizzas so try the Bolognese or pasta pollo.

7. Mermaid

Location: Maadi

This little Italian restaurant has been hidden in plain sight on Road 9 for 15+ years now.

Try: the lasagna and stroganoff

8. Pane Vino

Credit: Trip Advisor

Location: Semiramis Intercontinental (Garden City)

Great outdoor space and extensive wine list. Shisha also available. Check out our review here.

Try: the fettuccini alfredo and osso bucco.

9. Bonus 2-for-1: Olivo and Andiamo

Credit: Olivo

Location: Olivo – Zamalek/Katameya, Andiamo – Heliopolis/New Cairo.

We combined the two because they’re essentially both (good!) pizzerias and not full-on Italian. Drinks served in both.

Try: the pizza, obviously.
