5 Good Things to Close 2018 With
It’s the little things that count.
It’s been a weird and frankly emotional roller-coaster of a year so far, hasn’t it? I can’t even begin to recollect a decent string of events that hasn’t gone fantastically awry lately. But because some of us choose to enjoy the little things in life (and we’re basic), 2018 doesn’t have to be the year of the witch. These 5 little local and global discoveries can give your 2018 a much-needed send-off without too much regret.
Classic Kinder Eggs are Back
Yes, my basic little friends. The regular old chocolate-egg-with-a-toy-inside is back on certain store shelves in the Greater Cairo Region. With their authentic blend of milk and white chocolate egg shells, and their high quality selection of neat little knick-knacks, the Kinder nostalgia is in full effect. I tried purchasing two of them myself, and let me tell you: I got a fucking tiny monster truck and a little paper plane that actually flies. Dope.
Cadbury 3-in-1 Hot Chocolate Powder
Now this one came out of complete left-field with me. Although I am still stuck in a time when Cadbury bars were wrapped in foil rather than shiny industrial magic, I am still open to their offerings even well into 2018. So it came as a bit of a surprise to find that this frankly enjoyable hot chocolate powder from them is such an easy win in this harsh winter. Affordable, delicious, and pretty warm to boot.
Video Games for Nothing
Though not exclusive to 2018, everybody remembers at some point in the past playing old-school Doom. And though the recent Doom 2016 was a smash hit and a true return to form, some folks prefer to keep reinventing the wheel. Case in point, this totally free modification to classic Doom 2 titled ‘Russian Overkill’.
Yes, for a simple 60 megabyte download, and googling “How to install GZDoom,” you can enjoy a mostly drunk attempt at putting all the guns in all the games made in forever into one, small 90’s game. You want shotguns that shoot other shotguns? Miniguns that shoot tiny jet fighters that drop bombs? Finger guns that fire .45 ACP? FESTIVE JOY? Check it out here.
TS Sublime
Though we’ve mentioned TS Sublime before, it is with a sad hard that we announce the departure of owners Thomas and Sofia from Egypt in a matter of four or so months. But fear not; they’ll be baking daily from as early as 6 AM to deliver handmade, authentic French pastries, both sweet and tangy. Never has Madinet Nasr ever enjoyed such a privilege in the heavily-congested food and beverage industry. Check out their Facebook and thank us later.
GQ’s Mohamed Salah Shoot
We harbour nothing but the most strictly-professional respect for born-and-raised Egyptian King, Mohammed Salah. Having said that, there are many facets of this man that are inspirational for several generations of young Egyptians to come. Whether it’s his tireless philanthropy, his dedication to his craft, or his interest in haute couture, he sets an example for experiencing life to the fullest. It’s that latter point that has managed to soothe many an Egyptians burning 2018 wounds by seeing our man showing the world how fashionable a man can be.
