Let’s get one thing clear here. All reviews – and particularly food affiliated ones – are wholly representative of the author’s own views and tastes. You don’t need to agree with them. You don’t need to like them. You don’t need to take them at face value. In fact, you should be skeptical about them and go test out these foods/places for yourself so you can – on your own merit – come to the same conclusion that this author has arrived to (because he’s never wrong).
That being said, let’s talk burgers baby!
Needless to say, we’ll be reviewing “actual” burgers, not pseudo-burgers masquerading as the real thing whether it’s brought to us by those who sport Golden Arches, or those who have royalty in their name, it doesn’t really matter, because we’re all about the real deal here!
Starting off with a local favorite, Mince has done a more or less decent job in revolutionizing interest in “gourmet” burgers back when it launched a few years ago and has remained fairly consistent in terms of quality throughout the years (We don’t speak of their former breakfast menu, may it RIP).
Mince’s burger selection has something for everyone in terms of diversity from toppings and variety, but perhaps their greatest claim to fame is their customization that essentially allows you to rebuild the burger of your dreams any way you want.
Personal favorite combo:
- Choose the Mushroom burger
- Make it large
- Choose brown buns.
- Opt out of the mince sauce – add mint yogurt sauce instead.
- Add guacamole sauce on the burger.
- Add caramelized onions.
A major plus of theirs is their sweet potato fries which they’ve honestly kind of perfected in terms of the crunchiness to oiliness ratio.
Mince delivers online through elmneus app (although at the time of writing this piece, online ordering was not available for some reason) in addition to over the phone through the Mori Co. hotline (16885). You can get your drool on by visiting their Instagram page as well!
If you’re in a bind and you want something that’s fairly consistent, speedy and moderately tasty, look no further than Burger Joint. While their buns are atrociously disproportionately sized in relation to the beef patties they surround, the sandwich is flavorful and their veggies are usually pretty fresh (looking at all y’all with the wilted lettuce and yesterday’s tomatoes).
Burger Joints are a moderately priced way of satisfying a craving on-the-go, and arguably, their biggest hit on the menu is the KBJ (King Burger Joint) which is composed of three layers of burger, BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion and melted cheese (We drooled typing this).
A beloved Zamalek-based stronghold that’s amassed its fair share of fanatics over the years since its inception, Butcher’s Burger has made a name for itself through decadence and a diverse menu that tries to cater to a multitude of tastes.
While they’re renowned for their burgers, a personal favorite of ours is the Texas BBQ brisket (a rarity in Cairo) which gives you delicious mouth watering pulled BBQ brisket, cheese, fried onion strings, hickory BBQ sauce, jalapenos, smoky mayo. Spicy burp!
Of course, for those who love a challenge, Butcher’s offer a few options if you seek a clogged artery and difficulty to breathe. This takes place through their Super Size Burger menu which offers three different options, chief amongst them is the Mighty Bastard, a one-kilogram behemoth burger patty loaded with cheese, caramelized onions, chili con carne, crispy onion & tortilla strips, lettuce, pickles and our special sauce. We had arrhythmia just typing this.

Similar to Burger Joint, we find that Buffalo Burger has found a better balance between the bun to beef patty size ratio. Buffalo is also a solid go-to option when you’re craving a quick delivery burger option that’s actual beef and fills you up until your next wrong decision.
Buffalo Burger are arguably one of the more experimental burger joints in Cairo, with a focus on exploring different gastronomic experiences within their burgers by infusing different themes/elements that challenge the typical view of a burger.
Their “Animal Style” burger provides you with scrumptious onion rings, topped with a fresh spread of mustard and infused with their signature buffalo spread. The “Rastafari” brings you jalapeno cheddar bites on a burger patty with creamy buffalo sauce. Arguably, our personal favorite is their Bacon Mushroom Jack, which offers you clean cut of beef with fresh sauteed mushroom, cheddar cheese and creamy mayonnaise.
You can check their burgers out on Instagram here.
